CHS Hosts 27th Annual Exceptional Rodeo

The 27th Annual Exceptional Rodeo took place Thursday morning. The event, which has become a Missouri State Fair tradition over the years, pairs cowboys with participants to give them the rodeo experience firsthand.

Participants learned to rope a “calf” in various ways, rode a bucking “bull,” rode a “horse” while roping a “steer,” petted a real horse, played games, ate lunch and did a little line dancing to close out the event.

The event had a great turnout with 120 participants, 20 staff from the Center for Human Services, 35 cowboys and cowgirls from the Missouri Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Southern Sweetheart Performance Team in attendance. Eddie DeJaynes, a former CHS board member, shared, “This is the best way to start the Missouri State Fair, all these smiling faces!”

Susan Mergen, Director of Development at CHS, would like to extend a special thank you to the organizations in the area that help make the Exception Rodeo possible: Missouri State Fair, Missouri Rodeo Cowboys Assocation, Subway, Pepsi, Yeager’s Cycle, Clark’s Tire, Don’s Truck & Towing, County Distributing, Ditzfield Transfer, Slater Designs, and the CHS staff.
