Consumer Advocacy Services Expanded into Clay County

Effective January 1, 2012 the CHS Consumer Advocacy Department expanded services into Clay County. This expansion is a result of being awarded the contract through a Request for Proposal which was submitted in June 2011 to the Developmental Disability Resource Board of Clay County, MO. We are contracted through the Department of Mental Health-Division of Developmental Disability to provide Targeted Case Management Services to all adults (ages 18 and older) in Clay County. Robert W. and Mark W. Mason Check Presentation

The Center for Human Services received Estate gifts today totaling $500,000 from the Estates of Robert W. Mason and Mark W. Mason. The gifts will be used to provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

CHS Bloomin’ Gardens: Robert W. Mason and Mark W. Mason Horticultural Training Center is currently under construction behind the Ewing Vocational Center and will open in early April 2012.

Union Savings Bank was chartered in 1913 by the State of Missouri. It was first located at Fifth and Engineer in Sedalia. Later, during the depression the main facility was relocated to Main and Ohio and occupied a building owned by a failed bank.

Hebert W. Mason started to work in the bank in 1915 as a bank teller and janitor. In the 30’s the Mason family acquired controlling interest in the bank and Mr. Mason became president. He was a part of the bank for the next 68 years until his death in 1983. His son Robert W. Mason became president upon his father’s death and remained in that office and worked daily at the bank until his death in 2010. He was followed by his son Mark W. who died in August 2011. Other family members worked in the bank serving the community over the years.

CHS Awarded three-year accreditation by Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

CARF International announced that the Center for Human Services has been accredited for a period of three years for its Administration and Governance, Employment Services, Community Living Program, Service Coordination and Early Care and Education Programs. The latest accreditation is the 8th consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body has awarded to the Center for Human Services.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable.

The Center for Human Services is a nonprofit organization with its main office in Sedalia. It has been providing services for people with disabilities since 1955 and is now serving children and adults in 31 counties in Central Missouri. All service counties are covered by the three-year award.

CARF is an independent, non-profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. Accreditation also serves as an international benchmark to assure program funders, parents, and the community-at-large that services meet high quality standards.
